Wii drops down to $149.99, ‘Nintendo Select’ brand revealed

Nintendo announced that they are dropping the MSRP of their upcoming Mario Kart-bundled Wii system to $149.99 on May 15th, as many gamers have expected after the announcement of their next console tentatively titled “Project Café.” Seen as a move to counter Sony’s PlayStation 3 Move bundle along with Microsoft’s Kinect, it appears that Nintendo has been making moves in order to regain loss ground over their competitors with this announcement along with their new ‘Nintendo Select’ brand.
Also on May 15th, Nintendo will be launching their brand-new ‘Nintendo Selects’ collection of Wii games. $19.99 games that have sold well and are popular, similar to Microsoft’s and Sony’s Greatest Hits lines. The first four announced games for this collection are the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Animal Crossing: City Folk, Mario Super Sluggers and Wii Sports.
As stated on their official press release, “From the day it launched, Wii has let players of all ages and experience levels have fun with one another,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Ame. “The new suggested retail pricing for both the hardware and select games will help create more of these magical moments for even greater numbers of people.”
