Top Five Games that Deserve Wii U Ports/Remakes

With the announcement of the Nintendo Wii U yesterday at E3 2011, and a serious lack in the software lined up for the brand-new HD system, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to go and come up with a list on the top five titles that we would love to see ported or remade on the Wii U. Keeping in mind the touchscreen features and interaction between the controller and the actual console, here’s what we came up with.

Mass Effect Trilogy

If there’s one thing Nintendo gamers have missed this generation it’s BioWare titles as the Wii simply isn’t strong enough to power their in-game engines. In what could be a possible first appearance on a Nintendo console for the series, just imagine using the touchscreen feature to order your squad mates or as a quick way to call up your biotics without having to use a Sony PlayStation 3 controller. It very well could become the ‘definitive’ Mass Effect experience.

Possibility of it happening: Quite high

Call of Duty: Black Ops

It doesn’t matter if your favorite title in ACTIVISON’s series is Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2. You know that being able to use the touchscreen on the Wii U as a sniper scope would be awesome. Aside from that however, another good idea would be for the game developers to use the screen as an in-game map rather than having it appear on-screen for gamers to plan their attack. Everyone knows that a Call of Duty game will be released on the Wii U, it’s just a question of which one.

Possibility of it happening: Inevitable

L.A. Noire

Aside from ports of Manhunt 2, Bully and Rockstar Table Tennis, Rockstar titles has been conspicuously absent from the Wii’s software library. That’s why a port of L.A. Noire or a release of the next entry in the series would be perfect for the Wii U. As someone who’s been spending his time with this gritty noire-inspired title recently, one of the most irritating things to me has been having to review case material through the game’s rather clunky menus during the interrogation phase. The use of the Wii U’s control pad can take care of this problem for good.

Possibility of it happening: Decent

Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney

Keeping with the previous theme of case material and interrogations, who wouldn’t want a fully remade hi-def port of the Ace Attorney series? Although both games would more than likely feature similar uses of the Wii U’s touchscreen, I think that the connectivity between the Wii U’s controller and console would be something that visual novel makers, not just Capcom, definitely needs to pay attention to.  Use the television for beautiful hi-def character sprites and backgrounds while using the non-HD controller for text.

Possibility of it happening: Moderate

Pokemon

Let’s face it. The Wii U’s controller is pretty much a marriage of the iPad and the DSi XL. You have your typical set of buttons along with an innovative touch feature, so now is the perfect time to finally port and remake the original Pokemon games in hi-def for an entirely new generation of gamers. Use the touchscreen as you would in Pokemon: Black and White, add a robust online mode and Nintendo will sell millions.

Possibility of it happening: High
